What?

VLIR-UOS TEAM projects are medium-term projects that aim to explore, build and deepen academic/scientific collaborations among diverse teams of academics and researchers focusing on a sustainable development challenge. These projects aims to strengthen the research and educational capacities of higher education and science institutions in partner countries. In addition, TEAM projects are expected to create the conditions for uptake of new and relevant knowledge, applications and/or services by academic, civil society, private and public actors.

TEAM project have a duration of maximum 5 years and allow for medium-term capacity building through PhD research, curriculum development, network building,... . The project budget amounts to a maximum of 280.000,00 EUR for 5 years. Researchers can apply for a bonus of 20.000 EUR if the project is a:
  • Multi-Institutional Partnership: a structural collaboration between several higher education institutions at Flemish/Belgian (including ITM) and/or partner level.
  • Multi-Stakeholder Partnership: a structural collaboration with at least 1 non-academic actor (= multi-stakeholder; civil society, private sector, governmental actors, etc.).

Who?

A Flemish promotor and a partner promotor apply for a TEAM project together:
  • Flemish promoter: professor/specialist employed at a Flemish university or a professor/lecturer at a Flemish university of applied sciences and arts (ZAP, postdoc with ZAP and ATP).
  • Partner promoter: employed at a recognised higher education institution or a national public (not for profit) research institute, located in a VLIR-UOS project partner country.

Application?

The application for VLIR- UOS TEAM projects is a two-stage procedure consisting of:
  • Concept note (this call): focus on a narrative description of the sustainable developmental challenges, the project idea, and set-up.
  • Fully Fledged proposal: if your concept note get approved, you will be invited to submit a fully fledged proposal consisting of a elaborated Theory of Change, indicators and activity planning, risk and stakeholder analysis and budget.
Submissions are made online via a VLIR-UOS application, in cooperation with the UHasselt International office.

The international office will assist you in writing your project proposal. Therefore we have an internal deadline on 24/11/2023. Please submit your project proposal on 24/11/2023 for feedback by email to icos@uhasselt.be.
