What?
A first joint transnational call for project funding under the new Horizon Europe OH AMR partnership has been launched. The partnership aims to address the challenges of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) with a One Health approach.
This first EUP OHAMR Call aims to improve the treatment success rates of the patients/animals/plants affected by bacterial or fungal infections by providing new treatment options while reducing the risk of resistance in the different One Health settings.
This first transnational call addresses the following topics:
Topic 1 - Identify and develop new combination treatments using existing or innovative antimicrobials or antimicrobial with adjunctive treatments to extend drug efficacy and combat resistance;
Topic 2 - Develop tools and methods to improve adherence to treatment protocols;
Topic 3 - Assess the impact of antimicrobials for veterinary and agricultural use on the risk of AMR transmission to humans and the environment to inform policies on the restriction of some antimicrobials for human use.
Funding will come via FWO through the fundamental (FO) or Strategic Basic Research (SBO) channel. The type and scope of the proposed research project will determine the choice of funding channel for the research performed within Flanders (more fundamental in nature, or more aimed at economical/societal valorisation). Non-compliance with the specific requirements per funding channel might lead to non-eligibility.
Projects aiming at the development of a spin-off company are not eligible.
Clinical research and innovative intervention studies (including medical devices, technologies and tools for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human and animal diseases) are eligible only if they address a fundamental scientific question.
The FWO is able to support 3 projects for a 36 months duration, with an available maximum applicable budget of 350.000 EUR (overhead included) per project/consortium.
Who?
Joint research proposals may be submitted by Academia (public and private universities, other higher education institutions or research institutes).
The consortium must include a minimum of three (3) eligible partners asking for funding from three (3) different eligible countries (including at least two amongst EU Member States or Associated Countries).
The consortium can include a maximum of six (6) project partners, including non-funded partners.
The maximum number of partners can be increased to seven (7) if the consortium includes:
- at least one partner from an under-represented country or
- at least one partner where the Principal Investigator meets the definition of an Early-Career Researcher or
- a start-up, SME, or an Industry.
A consortium cannot include more than two (2) partners requesting funding from the same funding organisation.
A principal investigator can coordinate only one (1) submitted pre-proposal/ full proposal.
Application?
Research proposals are submitted to the OH AMR secretariat, through the
OH AMR submission platform, by consortia of European and international researchers, according to the applicable procedures and eligibility criteria included in the call documents. There is also the possibility of using a
partner search tool, which helps researchers with identifying potential consortium partners. An example of a pre-proposal template is available on the
OH AMR call 2026 webpage.
It's a 2-step submission:
Deadline submission pre-proposal: 2 February 2026, 13:00The FWO requires pre-registration on a national/regional level as well by filling in an application form on the FWO e-portal before the deadline for submission of the pre-proposals. When you're logged on to the e-portal, you can find it under "Researcher". It is strongly recommended to contact the FWO administration about your pre-registration at the latest one week before submission in order to verify admissibility.For the fundamental funding channel
the respective regulation applies. For the SBO channel the
SBO regulation has to be taken into account: these imply projects with a primarily economic and/or societal finality,
of which ‘valorisation’ is a key - and mandatory - aspect.
At both the pre- and full proposal stages, all partners, including non-funded partners, must submit a signed letter of intent along with their pre-/full proposal (the templates to be used for the letters of intent are included in the pre-/full proposal templates).
Given the pre-proposal already has to be OK in terms of budget, OBI has an internal deadline to check your proposal.Internal deadline: 26 January 2026In case the consortium includes more than one partner requesting funding from FWO, a single online form should be submitted containing all relevant information from the different Flemish partners.
29 April 2026: Communication of the results of the pre-proposal
Deadline submission full proposal: 17 June 2026
You can find more information, like the call text, the submission platform and the proposal application form on the
