Your research deserves to be seen, heard and understood beyond academia. But how do you
make your research resonate with a wider audience, and where do you start?
During this interactive PhD event, you will discover how to communicate your research beyond academic papers and conferences, and have the opportunity to put those skills into practice.
In the morning session, Science Communication Officer Niels Bibert will introduce the science communication opportunities available at UHasselt, from sharing your research with the media to engaging with the general public. You will learn how UHasselt can help you turn your research into compelling stories and support you along the way.
Next, BEW Communication Officer Silke De Feyter will offer a faculty perspective, highlighting what science communication can mean specifically for BEW researchers. A fellow BEW researcher will then share their personal experiences and lessons learned from communicating research beyond academia.
After the coffee break, it’s your turn! Pieter Vandekerkhof, Professor of Entrepreneurship, will guide you through an interactive pitching exercise. You will practise presenting your research clearly, convincingly and engagingly, and receive valuable feedback to help strengthen your science communication skills.
We’ll wrap up with a delicious poké bowl lunch and the opportunity to connect with fellow BEW PhD researchers in a relaxed setting.
Come with your research. Leave with a stronger story.

An important part of preparing for any further professional step is becoming (more) aware of the competences you have developed and/or want to develop. In the current session, the following competences from the UHasselt competency overview are actively dealt with:
For whom?
