This course is a part of the PhD efficiency week 2026 (23/03/26 - 27/03/24) organized by and for PhD students of the Faculty of Law. Courses included in this trajectory are:

Mastering Zotero, mastering references: Pieter Lernout will guide an interactive workshop centered on the latest developments in automated reference management and the e-reference management system 'Zotero', allowing for the direct incorporation of V&A-accurate references and footnotes.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, participants will:

  • understand the core functionalities of automated reference management systems in academic legal research,
  • be able to use the e-reference management system Zotero for the efficient organisation of legal sources,
  • be capable of directly incorporating V&A-accurate references and footnotes into academic manuscripts, and,
  • be able to apply automated referencing tools to enhance the consistency and accuracy of legal citations in scholarly writing.  

Competences

An important part of preparing for any further professional step is becoming (more) aware of the competences you have developed and/or want to develop. In the current workshop, the following competences from the UHasselt competency overview are actively dealt with:

  • academic research competences
    • information management
    • data management
