This course is a part of the PhD efficiency week 2026 (23/03/26 - 27/03/24) organized by and for PhD students of the Faculty of Law. Courses included in this trajectory are:

Methodology and my PhD: Research in Law is a 1-hour crash course designed to help doctoral researchers in law clearly position and structure their methodological approach. Delivered by prof. dr. Tim Wuyts, the workshop aims to allow participants to articulate, justify, and confidently defend the methodological foundations of their PhD projects.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • clearly position the methodological approach underpinning their doctoral research in law,
  • articulate and justify their chosen research methodology, and
  • confidently defend the methodological foundations of their PhD project.

Competences

An important part of preparing for any further professional step is becoming (more) aware of the competences you have developed and/or want to develop. In the current workshop, the following competences from the UHasselt competency overview are actively dealt with:

  • academic research competences
    • research methods

  • Registration is possible here as from February 25 until March 13, 2026.
  • As places are limited, registering does not automatically imply that you will be able to participate. You will be notified by email after the registration deadline has passed.
  • Please cancel your registration at least one week in advance in case you cannot make it (cf. cancellation & no-show policy).
