BelTox-BEMS Annual Scientific Meeting 2025 on microplastics
On December 4, 2025, CMK will be represented at the annual scientific meeting of BelTox and BEMS, which this year focuses on the theme: "Unmasking Microplastics: Impacts, Challenges and Implications for (Eco)Toxicology."
This event has already taken place.
The conference will take place at Sciensano in Brussels.
Highlights of Our Contribution
Two of our professors will play a key role during this event:
- Prof. dr. Nelly Saenen as one of the chairs of the meeting.
- Prof. dr. Karen Smeets will be an invited speaker, presenting research expertise from UHasselt.
About the Conference
The conference brings together leading experts to share the latest insights on:
- Detection and quantification of microplastics (using techniques such as Pyr-GC/MS, sp-ICP/MS, and microscopy).
- The impact on ecosystems, agriculture, and human health.
- Challenges in risk assessment and results from EU-funded research.
- Mitigation measures and interdisciplinary solutions.
Young Scientist Competition
The meeting will also host a Young Scientist Competition for PhD students and early-career researchers. Abstract submissions are welcome in the broad fields of toxicology and ecotoxicology (not limited to microplastics).
