Title

India Platform Study Visit "Liveable Cities" (Education)

Abstract

For the last two years, the India Platform (IP) has initiated collaboration between Europe and India in the domains of Liveable Cities and Waste Management. Because of these steps, new opportunities are now emerging in the area surrounding the harbour city of Mangalore, Karnataka. The India Platform wants to provide access to these opportunities to the IP partners in Europe and invited the SvM to participate in this study visit to the Mangalore area from January 6 to January 10, 2016. The main purpose of the visit is to facilitate contacts between the European IP partners, on the one hand, and the local IP partners in the Mangalore region, on the other hand, so that collaborative research and educational projects can be initiated. A second aim is to establish contacts with the Mangalore authorities and political representatives so that the participants of the study visit can get involved in the Smart Cities project in Mangalore. The third aim is to involve the participants in the Dharmasthala Model Pilgrimage Town project. This project holds promise for the future, since it will allow the participating European experts to build up specific expertise on the planning of pilgrimage towns, of which there are thousands in India.
