Title
Organisation of the 2019 edition of the Hugo Sinzheimer Moot Court Competition (Education)
Abstract
The Hugo Sinzheimer Moot Court Competition (HS MCC) is the first and only International Moot Court Competition in labour law. The aim of the HS MCC is to deepen and improve the knowledge of employment and labour law at the European level. It offers an opportunity to experience the operation of European labour law in a setting as realistic as possible. The competition imitates real life court situations and addresses the most challenging and topical issues within the field. During the competition the teams prepare written statements and oral pleas for a jury panel consisting of judges and experts.
The first HS MCC took place in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) on 24-25 June 2016, the second in Aarhus (Denmark) on 15-17 June 2017 and the third in Cassino (Italy) on 14-16 June 2018. This year edition will take place in Hasselt from 13 to 15 June 2019. It will be organised by Hasselt University and the Social Law Unit of the Centre for Government and the Law (CORE).
12 national teams (from 12 different European countries), each composed by 2 to 4 students and a coach, will come to Hasselt to participate in the competition. The Court assessing their performance will be composed by 12 judges and one President, chosen among professional judges, lawyers and academics from different European countries. As such, HS MCC is also a great opportunity for students, coaches and judges alike to meet colleagues from different countries in Europe
