Title

DAAD-project: meeting point functional layers (Education)

Abstract

Together with University College Zweibrucken (Kaiserslautern – Germany) we have a project (DAAD – Functional Layers – 2019-2020) that focusses on mobility in education and research. It is the aim of the DAAD project to have exchange of bachelor, master and PhD students. This has been established during the last 4 years by having students from Zweibrucken coming to UHasselt for their bachelor and/or master thesis. Last year also a few masterstudents from UHasselt went to Zweibrucken for their thesis. Discussions on a double degree are ongoing and it is scheduled for this project to finalise this double degree into an agreement such that students from Hasselt that go to Germany for one extra year achieve 2 diploma's. Further, several PhD students from Hasselt University can go to Zweibrucken for a short stay and 3 German PhD students have started their PhD at UCZweibrucken with a UHasselt promotor. As an intens exchange of PhD students in both directions has been taken place and will also take place in the coming period, topics are also starting to overlap and it is the intention to further develop this collaboration by submitting collaborative research projects. Further, every year a summerschool is organised in Zweibrucken for 16 UHasselt students (GLW-BMW and IIW) on the topic of functional layers as prepared in a cleanroom. This has a high added value for both students from bio-electronics and nanotechnology (GLW-BMW) as for students from electronics-ICT (IIW). A summerschool will also be organised in Hasselt (having 16 students from Zweibrucken and 25 to 75 students in total). Previous versions of the summerschool were organised also together with VUB, UGent and KULeuven leading to dissimination of the research results in this project. Finally, also ZAP exchange is foreseen (and has taken place during the last years) between UHasselt, UCZweibrucken but also with Max Planck in Mainz and Univ. Lisbon.

Period of project
