Title
Evaluation of interventions in the summer bed of the Common Meuse / Border Meuse for the fish community. (Research)
Abstract
The research aims to evaluate the effects of engineered gravel thresholds, gravel back and some adjustments to the course (summer shore Hochter Bampt, Herbricht and Meeswijk) to the local fish community. By strengthening and increasing the number of barriers, especially in the upstream part of the Grensmaas, the number of shallow rapids increased, the current pit pattern strengthened and the proportion of shallow gravel banks at low summer discharge increases due to the interventions. These structures are very important for the survival of juvenile (0+- year class) river fishes (De Vocht et al. 2003). The hypothesis is that this increase in richness structure will result in higher densities of juvenile fishes and more specifically juveniles of current loving species in these structures.
