Project R-11312

Title

Co-financing KU Leuven-project for purchase of EEG set-up equipment: Integrated Platform for Closed-Loop Motor Training and Adaptive Neuromodulation (Research)

Abstract

Perception, action and cognition are critical to engage in daily motor tasks such as buttoning a shirt or moving objects. These tasks are challenged as a result of aging and dramatically affected in case of cerebrovascular accidents or neurodegenerative diseases. Accordingly, it is critical to investigate the overarching principles governing the control and (re)learning of movements in health and disease across the lifespan. Therefore, the goal of this multidisciplinary project, at the frontiers between neuroscience, engineering and rehabilitation science, is to lay the basis for a state-ofthe-art technological platform for the study of sensory and motor functions and their associated neural substrates. This platform will allow us to assess and train sensorimotor and cognitive functions in healthy participants across the lifespan but also in different patient groups. This state-ofthe-art facility will bring us at the forefront of research infrastructure for studying perception, action and cognition, not only within Flanders but also within Europe. It will provide a critical leverage for bridging basic and clinical sciences with tremendous potential for translational research.
