Title
Dialogical Landscapes: A speculative research on common ground(ing) (Research)
Abstract
This PhD proposal in the arts examines the influence of commoning principles on artistic practice, and whether, and if so how, these principles can contribute to artistic autonomy. In this, the precarious socio-economic position of the artist is central. Within the framework of this project, various artistic commoning practices are investigated (phase 1), and an experimental
organizational structure is established (phase 2) in which the 7 design principles for commons governance (Ostrom, 1990) are experimentally tested. The use of convoking (Havens, Khasnabish, 2014) creates a reciprocal relationship between the researcher and the participants in the study. Knowledge is shared through feedback loops and immediately fed back to the experimental organization. In addition to stimulating exchange and reflection by means of an online platform, this research will ultimately result in a dissertation and developed artistic work in a final exhibition.
