Title
Depth profiling of radiologically contaminated concrete, using CT-scan images and Monte Carlo simulations (Research)
Abstract
During decommissioning of nuclear installations, special care is taken to avoid the
creation of excessive radioactive waste (RAW). An important approach to minimize
RAW is to separate contaminated and activated waste from conventional waste and,
where possible, decontaminate structures to remove the contamination from the rest
of the material. In order to obtain a suitable decontamination strategy for the concrete, the present study focuses not only on the characterization of the type of contamination but also on the depth of the contamination by using CT scan images and Monte Carlo simulations.
