Project R-14202

Title

BIOMED-VISION - Biomedical research complex UHasselt at Health Campus Limburg DC (Research)

Abstract

This project focuses on the expansion of Hasselt University's biomedical research infrastructure as a knowledge anchor. In an innovative knowledge economy, knowledge institutions play an important role. Their knowledge and expertise are a powerful driver of economic development in an open innovation model. Physical proximity of these actors in a stimulating campus environment reinforces this effect. 'Health Campus Limburg DC' in Diepenbeek will be a center for innovation in healthcare and life sciences, with cooperation between knowledge institutions, companies, government, the healthcare sector and citizens. This project includes the expansion of UHasselt's biomedical research building, which houses specialized technological platforms for biotechnological and medical research. These platforms focus on biomedical imaging, cellular analysis, data science, preventive medicine and digital health. This strengthens the expertise of the Biomedical Research Institute (BIOMED); the Limburg Clinical Research Center (LCRC) in collaboration with hospitals Jessa and ZOL; and the University MS Center (UMSC) in collaboration with Noorderhart Hospital. The project promotes collaboration and provides shared research and development opportunities, giving young companies access to advanced technology platforms without high investment costs. This project supports regional development through UHasselt's role as a civic university and related collaboration with partners in the innovation system.
