Title
Development, implementation, and evaluation of a plaTfOrm using evidence-based
inTervEntions for (Mental) health' (TOTEM) (Research)
Abstract
By developing the TOTEM platform, Faresa aims to provide a solution for the rapidly growing
demand for care among mildly to moderately depressed clients. The goal is to make the
transition from traditional care provision via face-to-face therapy or teleconsultation to
blended care in clinical practice. With TOTEM, the therapist can offer blended care based on
cognitive behavioural therapy to these clients, supporting both the client and the therapist.
Thanks to TOTEM, the therapist can add objective and continuous (behavioural) monitoring,
making it possible to offer personalized interventions via an AI recommendation system (just-
in-time). TOTEM uses data from objective monitoring, self-reported client information and
feedback from the psychologist-therapist.
Faresa collaborates with Hasselt University (IMOB) to develop TOTEM. The platform will
consist of various components, including a profiler unit, an intervention planner unit, an
intervention register and a matching & booking unit. During the development process, co-
creation is used, in which both depressed people and therapists are interviewed through
methods such as focus groups and questionnaires. The current project also includes a
feasibility study, investigating the effectiveness of TOTEM and conducting a process
evaluation.
