Title
Towards more sustainable batteries (Research)
Abstract
This project aims to install a series of state-of-the-art equipment in the EnergyVille 2 battery lab to accelerate the transition of the battery manufacturing and operation towards more sustainability. This will be achieved by the installation of a dry coater for the preparation of porous electrodes in the absence of any solvent and by the connection of a glovebox to an existing deposition tool enabling protective coatings on anodes. By doing so, the environmental footprint of the cathode and anode electrodes will be minimized thanks to the elimination of the conventional toxic solvents such as NMP and its associated energy intensive drying process, and by extending the lifespan of battery operation.
