Title
The legal challenges of smart cities: toward an optimized legal framework (Research)
Abstract
Smart cities are on the rise in a variety of sectors (utilities, public transportation, healthcare and public services). Politicians are fully committed to smart city projects, which illustrates the social relevance of research on smart cities. Currently, however, legal research on smart cities and Belgium is very limited to non-existent. Nevertheless, despite the many benefits smart cities bring to the local population, they also face several challenges that raise legal questions. The regulations that already exist on smart cities are reviewed to see if they are sufficient to shape smart projects. The problem areas are uncovered, after which various solutions are developed.
