Title

IBD PATHFINDER: Optimising IBD Treatment Sequences using Multi-registry Data (Research)

Abstract

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), comprising Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a chronic condition with significant impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The treatment of IBD usually comprises a sequence of medications that patients progress through as they discontinue treatments they no longer respond to and start new ones. After failure of immunosuppressants, a range of costly advanced treatments are available. Currently, there is no guidance on best treatment sequences, and only limited trial data on comparative treatment effectiveness. Registries that include information collected during clinical practice have large sample sizes and long patient follow-up. We wish to estimate effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of advanced treatment sequences for the treatment of IBD based on multi-registry data. Hypothesis&objectives: We can use registry data to estimate effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of different advanced treatment sequences for patients with CD and UC, and subgroups.
