Update of research on the transportability of mobility aids on De Lijn vehicles (Research)

The Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) of Hasselt University conducts, on behalf of the Department of Mobility and Public Works, an update of a previous study (2014–2016) on the transportability of mobility aids (including e.g. wheelchairs and mobility scooters) on vehicles of De Lijn. Since the original study, there have been numerous technological and regulatory developments, as well as new types of vehicles and aids. The project analyses, among other things, current legislation, safety aspects, market developments, and the characteristics of new De Lijn vehicles. Additionally, national and international admission criteria are compared, and structured consultation is held with users, manufacturers, and policy bodies. The aim is to formulate updated policy recommendations for a future-oriented and realistic admission policy, with attention to safety, user-friendliness, and practical feasibility.
