AluPredictAI: VLAIO Feasibility study (Research)

The goal of the proposed study is twofold. (i) The main goal is to examine the feasibility of using state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) models to predict multiple mechanical properties of aluminium products based on material composition and process settings. We intend to investigate whether such predictions can be sufficiently accurate to guarantee the quality levels targeted in zero-defect manufacturing environments.(ii) In the process, we will gain more knowledge on the correlation between the input and output parameters. In the follow-up trajectory, we aim to use these prediction models to shorten the design stage for new aluminium products, by backwards use of the models, and to reduce the amount of mechanical testing required. Both lead to higher throughput of new R&D projects.
