Safety First: drone-based analysis for safer school zones and active stakeholder engagement (Education)

Road traffic fatalities are a significant public health challenge among children and adolescents in the Philippines. School zones are of particular interest due to the volume of pedestrians and vehicles that converge and pose safety issues. The proposed project aims to introduce an enhanced and cost-effective methodology for road safety assessment in school zones using drone technology. Through the strategic partnership between Hasselt University and University of the Philippines National Center for Transportation studies, the proposed project shall build knowledge and capacity through drone-based road safety analysis. It shall also expand stakeholder networks through the conduct of various training sessions with local experts and institutions. Finally, it aims to promote better community engagement via co-creation with multiple stakeholders on road safety issues and solutions.
