Title
Urban Retail Experience Scan for developing street DNA (Research)
Abstract
This CONCEPT project represents the first phase in the valorisation trajectory of REXS uMAKE and focuses on the development of REXS urban and the optimisation of MAKE. This phase combines the content-related refinement of both tools with an exploratory market study, aiming to strengthen their value proposition and lay the foundation for an integrated prototype in a follow-up POC project.
REXS urban builds on the existing REXS tool, enhanced with insights from civic and policy design. MAKE will be aligned with REXS urban by integrating elements such as DNA, user experience, façade and interior design. Since no prototype of REXS urban is available yet, a participatory approach is essential. Bilateral interviews and co-creation workshops will be used to explore the needs of cities, municipalities, design agencies, trade associations, and other stakeholders, and to iteratively refine both tools.
The focus of the market exploration in this phase is on willingness-to-use, content alignment, and the applicability of the tools in practice, rather than on willingness-to-pay.
• The key milestones of this project include:
• An overview of potential licensees, relevant actors, and different types of retail streets.
• A methodology and materials for the co-creation workshops.
• A prototype of REXS urban in Excel and a refined version of MAKE, along with first insights into current processes and user needs.
• A clearer understanding of the willingness-to-use and future valorisation potential of REXS urban and MAKE.
