Title
CLT³ - Concept. Connect. Construct (Research)
Abstract
The VLAIO COOCK+ CLT³ project aims to strengthen the use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) as a
construction method in Flanders by increasing knowledge and reducing technical risks across the
entire construction chain. Despite the growing interest in CLT as a sustainable building material,
architects, contractors, and clients still face significant barriers, including failure costs, acoustic and
fire-safety uncertainties, and a lack of practice-oriented design guidelines. The project focuses on
three key tracks: (1) centralizing existing knowledge through an analysis of existing CLT buildings,
(2) supplementing missing knowledge by addressing specific bottlenecks in greater depth, and (3)
developing and disseminating accessible tools such as details, specifications, decision trees, and
practical guidelines. These outputs will be widely shared through workshops, seminars, and
publications.
