Unraveling Linkages Between Coastal Social-Ecosystems and Climate Change to Enhance Resilience in EasternCuba (Education)

Abstract

The project enhances climate resilience in coastal socio-ecosystems in eastern Cuba, focusing on mangroves, localcommunities, and carbon sequestration. Using an interdisciplinary approach, it integrates socio-ecological methodsto assess coastal interactions and proposes innovative solutions for decision-making and adaptation. Incollaboration with Cuban institutions and Hasselt University. Within this context, the project provides advancedmethodologies, technical training, and global networks. The project analyzes perceptions of mangrove services viasurveys and interviews, integrating scientific and traditional knowledge into sustainable management. Results willsupport nature-based adaptation, inform environmental policies, and strengthen community resilience whileaddressing knowledge gaps in monitoring and management. This way the project intends reduce the gap betweenscientific research and public policies in Cuba.
