Title
Data-driven identification of causes resulting in desirable or undesirable process states (Research)
Abstract
The focus of Business Process Management (BPM) is to optimize the performance of business processes across various dimensions, depending on the organization's goals. Understanding the factors that influence these performance dimensions is crucial to improving the process effectively. Classical process mining techniques can provide valuable insights into the process, but do not reveal the underlying causal mechanisms. Causal process mining techniques investigate cause-and-effect relationships within processes.
However, existing methods remain limited in uncovering the causes of process dimensions. Therefore, the goal of this project is to enhance the current methods of causal process mining. This will be achieved through three main tasks. First, performance dimensions relevant to organizations will be identified and operationalized. Second, the existing methods on causal process mining will be investigated. Lastly, a method will be developed to better identify the causes of performance dimensions. This should help organizations identify the causes of performance dimensions, enabling them to improve their processes effectively.
