Title
IN4FO: International Network for Research on Family Offices (Research)
Abstract
Family offices are among the most influential yet least understood actors in today's economy. Traditionally administrative vehicles to manage family wealth, they have now grown into complex boundary organizations that combine investment management with philanthropy, governance, societal engagement, and intergenerational continuity. Unlike institutional investors focused solely on financial returns, family offices must navigate the complex interplay between financial, human, and socio-emotional wealth objectives. This creates fundamental tensions: Should they prioritize wealth preservation or pursue transformative ventures? How do they optimize risk-return profiles across diverse investment portfolios? To what extent should they commit to philanthropy and impact investing beyond profit maximization? What governance mechanisms ensure intergenerational continuity and maintain their role as stable, long-term capital providers? The International Network for Research on Family Offices (IN4FO) is the first comprehensive global research network dedicated to family office studies.
