Title
ROOTS-Building: Research on Optimising Timber and Sustainable Building (Research)
Abstract
The ROOTS network will bring together researchers from the Benelux and DACH regions to bridge the divide between architectural design and timber engineering disciplines, fostering collaboration and driving innovation in circular timber construction and sustainability. Over a five-year period, ROOTS Building will organise research dissemination events and scientific publications focused on early career researchers, structured around five work packages (WPs).
WP1: State-of-the-Art Mapping of frameworks, research and practice in circular timber architecture and engineering. WP2: Case Study Analysis of exemplary buildings to identify best practices. WP3: Integrated Design Strategies, exploring synergies between timber architecture and engineering constraints. WP4: Circularity metrics and life cycle integration, developing methods to assess circularity and environmental impact; and WP5: Building a new collaboration ethos, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, amplifying the voices of early career researchers and ensuring long-term impact.
The ROOTS building network aims to (1) Nurture a strong interdisciplinary research community on timber and circularity, both nationally and across the Benelux-DACH regions; (2) strengthen collaboration between architectural and engineering disciplines, and (3) empower a new generation of researchers to lead the future of circular timber construction.
