Offering a webinar on strength training and healthy ageing for older adults on Thursday, 2 April 2026. (Research)
Abstract
Sport Vlaanderen is aware that sport and exercise play an essential role in active ageing. That is why the organisation is strongly committed to initiatives that keep Flemish people active and healthy in a responsible way. Numerous scientific publications show that strength training is one of the most effective ways to age healthily.
For this reason, Sport Vlaanderen wants to inform and raise awareness among older people within the Flemish government and within companies through a webinar on healthy ageing and strength training.
This initiative is part of the MoveAtWork programme.
By older people, we do not mean a strictly defined age group, but we do focus on employees between the ages of approximately 50 and 67.
Purpose of the webinar
The webinar aims to give participants insight into:
• the physical changes that occur with ageing, such as the decline in muscle mass, bone density and balance;
• the importance and benefits of strength training for maintaining strength, mobility and independence;
• practical, safe and achievable strength exercises that participants can easily perform at home.
