Project R-16612

Title

Building Better Interfaces for Thin-Film Chalcogenide Solar Cells (Research)

Abstract

This project investigates how interface concepts that have transformed silicon and perovskite solar cells can be adapted to thin-film chalcogenide photovoltaics. The sabbatical combines interface physics, advanced characterisation, and targeted device studies through collaborations with UPC, DTU, and Empa. The goal is to develop a clearer understanding of how interface design influences recombination, charge collection, and operational stability in polycrystalline thin-film solar cells, and to establish practical design principles for next-generation thin-film photovoltaic devices.
