Title

Bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application for a new regulatory T cell intervention (Research)

Abstract

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) hold significant therapeutic promise for autoimmune diseases, transplantation, and inflammatory disorders, but their clinical translation is limited by instability in inflamed tissues. Recent work has identified a mitochondrial ion exchange pathway as a key driver of Treg dysfunction under ionic and hypoxic stress. Targeted pharmacological inhibition of this pathway partially restores Treg stability and suppressive capacity in vitro and in vivo, in established preclinical disease models. The underlying technology is protected by a pending patent application. This project will validate the breadth of clinical relevance and address translational gaps identified through prior industry engagement. In parallel, results will be communicated at targeted cell therapy conferences to initiate co-development and licensing discussions with selected industry partners.
