Title

Synthesis and characterization of oxide-based cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. (Research)

Abstract

This PhD project focuses on the synthesis and characterization of oxide-based cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Nickel-rich NMC cathodes (Li(NiₓMnᵧCo₂)O₂ with x > 0.6) offer high capacity but suffer from structural instability due to Li⁺/Ni²⁺ cation mixing. This project will employ a modified sol-gel method (Pechini method) to synthesize these materials with precise control over morphology and composition. Doping and coating strategies will be investigated to stabilize the crystal lattice, suppress Ni²⁺ migration, and improve mechanical robustness. The materials will be comprehensively characterized using XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, and electrochemical techniques (galvanostatic cycling, CV, EIS). The goal is to develop NMC cathodes with high capacity, improved structural stability, and prolonged cycling performance, contributing to more efficient and durable lithium-ion batteries for the energy transition and electric mobility.
