Title
Study into the optimal location of guard posts for family doctors in Belgium (Research)
Abstract
A model is drawn up to map the number and the ideal location of guard posts for family doctors in the entire territory of Belgium. The model starts from a division of the territory of Belgium into geographical areas, from a combined system: in principle, we work with the territory of municipalities, except for the metropolitan areas, where we work with district levels because of the population.
An accessibility model is provided that visualizes the optimal location of guard posts for family doctors on a map and indicates which (sub-)communities are located within the working areas of each post: for each (sub)community the response time to the nearest guard post is indicated.
For each guard post the population and the number of active doctors within the working area is indicated.
To RIZIV and to the National Commission of doctor-medical insurance funds a model is offered which can be used as a supporting tool to its policy on funding of guard posts for family doctors.
