Title
Production of encapsulated microbubbles for use in non-invasive in situ dosimetry for radiotherapy (Research)
Abstract
In this project proposal, UHasselt (IMO-IMOMEC) will be responsible for the production of monodisperse encapsulated microbubbles and functionalized encapsulated microbubbles (f-EMB's). As the working principle of the new dosimeter system consists in the automated reading of the cumulative effect of radiation on EMB, the monodispersity, the sensitivity (material properties) and target specificity of EMB's are very critical. Therefore, IPR generated on the production of the monodisperse EMB's and the characteristics of the f-EMB's is crucial for the success towards an involvement in a the spin-off company. Therefore, UHasselt will develop monodisperse EMB's optimized for dosimetry. Microfluidic chip that does not rely on the randomness of mechanical agitation will be used for the generation of monodisperse microbubbles dispersed in liquid with parameters optimized for use in dosimetry.
