Since May 2005, I have been working at the Transportation Research Institute and the transportations sciences bachelor-master programme (then part of the BEW faculty) where I started my career as a communications officer. From this position, I grew to become the institute's communications manager. In 2014, the interfaculty School of Transportation Sciences (equivalent of a faculty) came into being, which from then on included the transportation sciences programme. This evolution allowed me to continue growing in my position. Since 2016, I am Operations Manager of the School of Transportation Sciences and the Transportation Research Institute where I am responsible for developing policies and coordinating and organising their operation with the aim of ensuring optimal service.
I obtained my master's degree in communication sciences at the VUB, writing a master's thesis on the need for and chances of success of the 'Science store' concept in Flanders. While writing my thesis, I developed my interest in science communication, which has remained an important focus throughout my career so far and in which I continue to educate myself. Because of my expertise in this field, in recent years I have been closely involved in applying for and executing various national and international research projects (e.g. Policy Research Centre for Traffic Safety, Mobility Plan Flanders, EC-FP7 Datasim, EC-H2020 Track & Know, EC-H2020 i-DREAMS, cSBO-MILESTONE ...). In addition, I also put my communication skills to use, within the transportation sciences programme. Since 2022, I have been part of the teaching team of the course 'Communicatie enParticipatie' and am a guest speaker within the cours 'Verkeersonderzoeksmethodologie'.
