About Me

Jonas is working as an Assistant Professor in Environmental Law (2024) at Hasselt University. He's both part of the Centre for Government and Law and the Centre for Environmental Sciences. He also is affiliated at Hasselt University as a Postdoctoral Researcher (2023) working within the framework of the Flemish CE Center

His research focuses on facilitating the transition towards a circular and sustainable society using the full spectrum of legal instruments. He is mainly focused on the impact of this transition on the built environment. Within this circular paradigm, his current main legal research interests are waste, innovative materials, soil and urban planning. He aims to examine these topics from various angles (law, political theory, sociology, natural sciences, economics), ensuring possiblities for inter- and multidisciplinary research.

Jonas obtained his PhD at Hasselt University in 2023 (title: "De juridische transitie naar een circulaire economie in de bouwsector in Belgiƫ. Zorgen dat de cirkel niet vierkant draait). Between 2023 and 2024, Jonas also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Tilburg University (NL) focusing on establishing a link between private and public construction legislation to accelerate the circular transition.
