Koen works at the Neurologic Rehabilitation research group at Hasselt University as an assistant professor. His research group focusses on the impact of age-related changes in inhibitory processes on motor control in the healthy brain, motor learning and interactions between different motor areas and their implications for motor control. To investigate this, neurophysiological (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and medical imaging techniques (mainly Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy) are used.
