Prof. dr. Nicoletta GRILLO

About Me

Nicoletta Grillo graduated in architecture (Politecnico di Milano) and in photography (CFP Bauer). She later obtained a PhD with a thesis on forms of representations of border landscapes through photography, which blended perspectives from urban studies, contemporary art history, and research in the arts (Politecnico di Milano and KU Leuven, 2022). Building on this background, her interests lie in the potential of photographic media and contemporary art to reimagine marginal landscapes and subjects through both practice-based and theoretical research. She is the author of the book "Photography and Invisible Borders. Spaces of Imagination between Switzerland and Italy" (Brill, 2024). Her latest project focuses on liminal spaces between land and sea. Active as both an artist and a researcher, she is currently an assistant professor within the research group MARGES.
