Resit exams

Registration for resit exams = mandatory

⚠️ Important: If you wish to participate in the resit examinations, you must register. Without timely registration, your exam is not valid and no result can be recorded.

An insufficient result in the first examination period (9/20 or lower, or a code such as N, A, X, …) usually leads to a resit opportunity during the summer examination period. Therefore, make sure to check in the uhasselt.be/studyguide how the evaluation for the second examination period is organised for each course. Results of 10/20 or higher do not entitle you to a resit exam.

Register for every course for which you expect a result, including:

  • Exams
  • Bachelor’s or master’s theses
  • Internships
  • Papers
  • Midterm assessments
  • Presentations
  • Assignments
  • Other forms of evaluation/continuous assessment
  • ...

Important: the highest result counts: (EEL art. 12.4, par. 2)

Within the same academic year, your highest exam grade obtained for a course counts as the final result. Participating in the resit exam period therefore cannot negatively affect the result obtained during the first examination period.

ℹ️ Participation in resit exams is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended. Not participating in resit exams may have serious consequences for your study progress (see below). In most cases, taking the resit exams is therefore the best option.

If you still choose not to take a resit exam, you do not need to take any further action.

Deadline

Registration for resit exams is only possible from 11 July up to 8 August. From 9 August onwards, registration for resit exams is no longer possible.

How?

In your student portal, go to the “My Modules” tile, then select the course for which you want to take a resit exam. Next, choose the second chance exam. (available from 11 July onwards)

Exam Schedule

Do you not see the examination timetable? Then you need to add the courses for which you wish to take a resit exam to your timetable again. You can find instructions on how to do this in this guide.

Do you have resit exams with overlapping dates? Follow the procedure as described on Blackboard or Toledo.

Consequences of Not Taking Resit Exams

Please note that if you still choose not to take the resit exams:

  • this will be considered a used examination opportunity when assessing your study progress and applying the study progress rules. Be aware: insufficient study progress may result in refusal of further enrolment in the programme;
  • if a compulsory course is not tolerated, you must retake the course in the next academic year;
  • tuition fees already paid will not be refunded;
  • no learning account credits will be recovered;
  • your result from the first examination period will be retained for this academic year.

Contact

Do you still have questions about resit exams after reading the information above? Please contact the relevant department before the summer break (early July):

  • Student administration's office: contact stua@uhasselt.be if you encounter issues when registering for the resit exam period or if you have other administrative questions.
  • Study coaches: for support with your planning and study strategies.
  • Academic advisors: to discuss the impact on your future study programme if you choose not to retake certain courses, and for questions regarding the rules of tolerance.

Would you like to request a retake for a "deliberated" fail after you have already been declared successful? Please follow the instructions explained on this webpage (question 2).
