Activity: exclusive company visit to Jabil

The MRS/E-MRS Joint Chapter of UHasselt organized an exclusive tour through Jabil Hasselt for PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers. As one of the world’s leading manufacturing and engineering solutions companies, Jabil operates globally in over 25 countries with 140 000+ employees across many sectors of which some are healthcare, automotive, automation and advanced technologies.
The Hasselt site specializes in development from concept to scalable production. Its on-site, cutting edge prototype manufacturing and unmatched product verification capabilities aid this by creating a direct feedback loop that verifies design choices in record time. This visit was a unique opportunity to discover how cutting-edge development and critical applications come together in an international technology environment.
The tour started with an insightful company introduction and business development presentation by Vital Driesen and Steven Nagels, the company representatives who co-organized the visit. The company tour started in the PCB assembly hall, where Jabil meticulously manufactures PCBA’s for their customers, and even tests them and builds them into final products with the help of automation. After the assembly line, we were taken through the product verification lab, where products are tested for reliability, such as drop and vibration tests. Finally, the tour ended with a peek at Jabil's huge Faraday cages, where products are tested for electromagnetic compatibility and antenna performance. Jabil treated us to a reception afterward,
where our researchers had the chance to engage in conversation with Jabil employees.
