OSCAR-QUBE 2020-2022

This mission is one of the key iterations of the OSCAR projects, resulting in the first-ever  demonstration of quantum magnetometers in low Earth orbit. The OSCAR-QUBE project was developed within the ESA Academy ‘Orbit Your Thesis’ program using nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamonds to measure magnetic fields with high sensitivity in space environments. It was tested on  the International Space Station (ISS) inside the ICECubes Facility to monitor Earth's magnetic field and  study the feasibility of using such sensors for other space-based applications by evaluating the long term stability of diamond-based quantum sensors in harsh space environments. It recently also got its wrap-up by the scientific dissemination of the results in a peer-reviewed journal “Diamond-based magnetometer aboard the International Space Station” in Physical Review Applied
