Pieter Lodewijks from VITO / EnergyVille will share the main findings from the PATHS2050 Coalition, highlighting how different net-zero pathways could shape Belgium’s future energy system.
Belgium’s transition towards a climate-neutral energy system requires clear choices on electrification, clean molecules, carbon capture, infrastructure, industrial transformation and system flexibility. In this session, VITO/EnergyVille will present the main findings of the PATHS2050 Coalition, including the latest scenario results and sectoral deep dives (PATHS2050 | Energy outlook). The presentation will highlight what different net-zero pathways imply for Belgium’s energy demand, technology choices, infrastructure needs, system costs and policy priorities. Special attention will be given to the role of industrial decarbonisation, security of supply and import dependency.
Supported by VLAIO - Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship, this lecture invites participants to engage in a discussion on the scientific, technological and societal dimensions behind Belgium’s long-term energy transition.
