A decade of OSCAR (short for Optical Sensors based on CARbon materials): from student experiments to advanced space technology - bringing space closer to UHasselt.

Last week, OSCAR attended the 27th ESA PAC Symposium on European Rocket & Balloon Programmes and Related Research in Trondheim, Norway with students from all across Europe presenting their experiments.

Seeing the next generation of projects is a reminder of our own decade of growth: from student experiment on a BEXUS ballon flight to advanced space technology.

This year, Oscar returned to present results from the MAPHEUS-16 campaign, demonstrating attitude and altitude determination with the OSCAR-QUBE+ sensor. While flight data was limited, the campaign marked a major step forward in both sensor development and data processing and sparked valuable discussions with the community.

Next stop: the preparation for the MAPHEUS-17 launch, aiming to collect data throughout the full flight trajectory and comparing the performance of our OSCAR-QUBE+ sensor with our next-generation OSCAR-PINQ sensor.
