After winning the DOCVILLE Science Pitch earlier this year, our international research project Solar Cookers 4 All is getting its own documentary. Last month, some of our colleagues and the filmmakers travelled to Lubumbashi to see the students and researchers at work.
For this project, researchers from UHasselt and University of Lubumbashi are working together to develop affordable, locally manufactured solar cookers that offer a sustainable alternative to charcoal. Every step of the project has been shaped by shared knowledge, co-creation and a commitment to sustainable development and tangible societal impact.
The documentary will not only showcase the development of the solar cookers, but also tell the story behind the research: the collaboration between researchers, students and the local community, and how scientific innovation emerges through dialogue with the people it is intended to serve.
We are already looking forward to the premiere at DOCVILLE 2027!
