“With this honorary doctorate, UHasselt not only wishes to recognize the personal achievements of Luc Van den hove, but also to highlight his vision on interdisciplinary research and innovation. This approach closely aligns with the mission of UHasselt and IUMAT, the Institute for Materials Research,” says Prof. Dr. Marlies Van Bael, promoter of the honorary doctorate.
The collaboration between UHasselt and imec within IUMAT has now been ongoing for 25 years, with the two institutions working together on areas including renewable energy within EnergyVille, materials for the circular economy, innovative healthcare, and quantum technology. “With the core mission ‘from atom to applicable device,’ our research institute focuses on sustainability and tangible societal impact. This approach is also strongly reflected at imec under the leadership of Luc Van den hove,” says Marlies Van Bael.
The award ceremony for the honorary doctorate to Luc Van den hove will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM in Oude Gevangenis, Hasselt campus.
