Project R-6725

Title

Development and Validation of a Cardiopulmonary Fitness Level Index for the Assessment of Heart Failure Status. (Research)

Abstract

Heart failure (HF) is a chronic and complex multi-system disease, characterized by frequent (re)hospitalizations, putting a large economic burden on the healthcare system. It is the complexity of the disease that makes disease follow-up and prediction of readmission challenging. The cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) and the six-minute walking test (6MWT) are important tools in objectively assessing disease status in HF patients as these represent physiological responses to exercise. A single, quantitative and reproducible parameter, reflecting the physiological condition of a patient, comprising the complexity of HF and approaching the CPET and 6MWT outcome, collected in a non-intrusive way would be a vital tool for remote monitoring strategies and would play a pivotal role in detecting disease worsening.
