Project R-8544

Title

Numerical analysis and simulation of flow in deformable porous media. (Research)

Abstract

The subsurface is of utmost societal importance: it is one of the major energy and water sources, and provides the possibility for temporary and long-term energy and CO2 storage. An optimal exploitation of the subsurface requires continuous efforts for a proper understanding of the various processes in it. This project addresses issues related to the mathematical modelling and numerical simulation of subsurface flows coupled to geomechanical processes. The main focus is on the development and the analysis of efficient and reliable numerical schemes. The model concepts, methodology and the simulation tools developed in this project are directly applicable to processes of societal relevance: enhanced oil recovery, CO2 storage in geological reservoir, or geothermal systems.
