Project R-10994

Title

Virtual Nuclear Simulator (ViNuS) (Education)

Abstract

To train engineering students to safely operate in a nuclear of medically nuclear environment, the Nuclear Technology program in collaboration with the Computer Science program (Expertise Centre for Digital Media) is developing a Virtual Reality training environment for the ViNuS IOP project. In this training environment, students will be confronted with the risks and consequences of their decisions and they will learn to make decisions in a well-grounded way. The VR environment forms a powerful tool to prepare labs or actions in nuclear sites and allows for the barriers between lab and industrial practice to be bridged. Through the VR environment, secondary school students are confronted with the (medically) nuclear reality and the connected safety culture in a safe way.
