Project R-12581

Title

The guide to circular school construction; from ambition to implementation and social integration (Research)

Abstract

Circularity is often associated with only a few sub-components of what it actually means; the subject is not always easy to explain to clients and users and is often pushed into a corner with the label 'expensive' or 'too ambitious'. Yet it is perfectly possible in the various stages of a project to sensitise people towards a circular economy. We choose a target group that is close to our hearts and in which we have a lot of expertise: school buildings. The project focuses on raising awareness among clients and users in several ways. Principals and boards have tools to prepare a project and to think about the level of ambition of each of the projects. The project will provide a guide that they can use to determine the level of ambition and the concrete steps towards it. This may result in a 'circular label' that can be used internally to set priorities. Users are often the drivers of change: parents, children and teachers. In this way, the project reaches current and future building owners.
