The IUMAT building on the Diepenbeek campus has been reopened. The fire brigade has inspected the entire building and declared it safe. The suspected gas leak turned out to be a false alarm and the local emergency plan has been lifted.

Human Biomonitoring PFAS (Research)

Abstract

Research (in 2021) among 3M neighborhood residents showed high levels of PFAS substances in the blood. For this Human Biomonitoring study, measurements of PFAS in participants' blood will be linked to measurements of the dust in and around participants' homes, to lifestyle, age and gender, measurements in vegetables and eggs from the garden, measurements in compost and rainwater, etc. This will allow for an integrated risk analysis and a link to health effects. The partners conducting this research are Universiteit Antwerpen, VITO, Provinciaal Instituut voor Hygiëne (PIH), Universiteit Hasselt and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB)
