Project R-13002

Title

Precision agriculture as the basis for a sustainable and future-oriented agriculture (Research)

Abstract

Although precision agriculture can provide significant added value for agriculture in Limburg, it is still little used today. For the farmer, it is not always clear how he can use or interpret the gigantic data stream. With this project, we are removing these obstacles for a number of targeted cases. We will not only further develop new technologies, but also demonstrate and demonstrate their - economic and technical - added value. A higher implementation of precision agriculture in Limburg crop production can create a positive impact on management, yield, cost control and resilience to climate change. With this project, the consortium selects a number of innovative precision agriculture methodologies and technologies to further develop and eventually integrate them into practice-ready applications. UHasselt brings its expertise on the development of new sensors to this project. Using smart sensors we want to respond to criteria that influence e.g. better planning decisions, saving of working time or other inputs, increased Quality, but also for the further future we are thinking about the drought issue and how to achieve less impact of agriculture on the environment. We therefore expect an increased implementation of precision agriculture among the farmers of Limburg with positive impact on management, yield, cost control, resilience to climate change. Through our approach we fill in the missing links between technology development and practical implementation
